Sudoku solver:

This online application solves Sudoku puzzles.

The usual Sudoku puzzles are 9 by 9, which I call size 3.

The program also supports size 4 (16 by 16), numbers or letters, and the diagonal rule.

>> Size 4 sometimes runs out of server time before completing, and size 5 (25 by 25) always did.

>> It used to check for alternate solutions, but that’s time consuming and not very useful.

Sudoku source

This is the Sudoku solver source code, in the PHP 5 scripting language.

It’s only about 900 lines of code, about half user interface and half recursive solver.

I tried a Sudoku puzzle once, but quit. I didn’t see the point.

Crossword puzzles are more entertaining and educational.

However, Sudoku is an interesting programming problem. Many people have solved it.

PS (12/21/2011):

I reloaded the travelogs, by popular demand. They’re still not linked from the home page, so search engines will ignore them.

I also restored a link to Mikki’s novel page.

PS (12/20/2011):

Well, my website has been hacked, again.

PowWeb reported some malicious files, and suspended my account, asking that I delete and reload everything.

They also reset my password, and both FireFox and IE choked accessing the PowWeb site, something about

“illegal redirection”. They fixed that, so I could change the password, and delete everything and reload some things.

Pain in the ass.

The bad guys ought to be hunted down and used for otherwise illegal surgical experiments.

I’ve reloaded PartyScore, because it’s an excellent program for private 2 to 4 table duplicate bridge.

However, delivery has become increasingly difficult with heightened security in new Windows versions,

and since I started a free trial offer of the full featured version I haven’t generated any revenue.

I also reloaded the Sudoku stuff, since it’s small and possibly useful.

I reloaded the sitemap too, and all the files it references, because I forget how to edit it.

PowWeb is no longer a reliable off-site backup for my PartyScore source code and other private files.

If you have any interest in the other stuff, the Filename program, the travelogs, the how-to’s, let me know.

August 7, 2011:

I’ve reverted to Word-generated html… it’s a long story. One consequence is that PayPal for PartyScore is gone.

I don’t want to do a PayPal interface myself and risk compromising either your PayPal account or mine.

If I don’t get any PartyScore sales or interest in the other stuff, this website will go away when the contract is up.

It’s a jungle out there… alive, but with predators and prey… so here’s a pretty picture:
